The role:
A Junior Data Scientist works across the data workflow under the guidance of more experienced Data Scientists to build efficient data pipelines and infrastructure, develop robust data models, and deliver descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics, data visualisations and insights that drive informed business decisions and help identify risks and opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Data engineering: Work alongside data engineers to build data pipelines using workflow orchestration tools. Set up scheduled extracts and work with data engineers to draw data from APIs for ad hoc analysis.
- Data modelling and data preparation: Prep and validate data by writing SQL code.
- Data visualisation: Select and implement appropriate data visualisation formats.
- Statistical analysis: Work under the guidance of a Senior Data Scientist to apply theoretical methods to data sets.
- Advanced analytics: Work under the guidance of a Senior Data Scientist to implement and train ML and AI models to perform predictions.
- Requirement gathering: assist with mapping and documentation of requirements.
- Partnership building: Build rapport with business stakeholders through responsive engagement.
Requirements
- Hold a relevant qualification (e.g. BSc Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Actuarial Sciences, Applied Mathematics, Statistics). Candidates without a Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems qualification must have some software/data engineering experience.
- Solid theoretical predictive modelling, mathematical and statistical skills
- Proficient in SQL
- Exceptional communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
Advantageous:
- 2+ years experience across the data science workflow
- Familiar with technologies such as DBT, Snowflake, Looker, Fivetran, Airbyte, AWS
- Programming experience with a relevant language such as Python
- Education/academic domain experience
- Experience with EdTech software systems and data sources (e.g. Moodle)
- Relevant AWS certifications
