ikeja Wireless is looking for a Field Team Technicians to join our teams in Cape Town and Johannesburg, as we embark on the expansion of our network throughout South Africa.

The role

We are seeking Field Team Technicians who are looking to gain experience in the telecommunications space, more specifically through being involved in serving our customers by carrying out the installation and maintenance of wireless internet. The ideal candidate will have technical experience cabling professionally with examples of successful current team members having been former DSTV or CCTV installers and IT networking technicians.

In taking on this role there is opportunity to grow into a Field Team Leader, so if you are eager to diversify your skills, grow and broaden your scope this is the role for you!

The Field Team Technician role demands that you be proactive, resourceful, hands-on, highly responsible and able to take initiative. Examples of successful team members have been former DSTV installers and IT networking technicians.


There are 3 core technician roles, namely Hotspot, Installs, Uninstalls amp; Maintenance.

Responsibilities of the role (not limited to but including) depending on which team category the candidate falls into are as follows:

Hotspot

  • Maintenance of ikeja customer hotspots
  • Maintenance of community poles
  • Planning and Co-ordination with Landlords and Ikeja hotspot hosts
  • Preparation of Hotspot equipment for ad hoc installs
  • Basic Civil works for the installation of ikeja community hotspot poles
  • Installation of hotspot equipment in Shopping Malls, Taxi Ranks and community areas

Installs

  • Preparation of equipment and poles
  • Interface with customers
  • Drilling
  • Mounting of brackets
  • Erecting of poles
  • Cabling
  • Crimping
  • Coding and aligning Customer Subscriber Modules to Network Access Points/Sectors.
  • Reporting on the alignment process by providing the following:
    • Dbm screenshots, capacity screenshots, balancing of chains screenshot, frequency screenshots, loco (Hotspot AP) and litebeam (Subscriber Module) status reports, photos of install jobs (brackets, pole, cabling and router), speed test results, 5 star ratings on mybroadband speed rating interface.
  • Setting up of router(s)
  • Educating client on how to connect and how to make payment on the payment portal payment.ikeja.co.za
  • Bookmark payment.ikeja.co.za to the client’s mobile browser after teaching them how to make payment.
  • Uphold the ikeja name and integrity of the business by interacting with clients in a friendly and respectful manner.

Maintenance + Uninstalls

  • Relocation
  • Remounting poles
  • Reprogramming and replacing equipment
  • Uninstalls
  • Fault finding
  • Uninstalling Free to use deployed client equipment

Requirements


  • Education: High School Matric (Required)
  • Knowledge of the use of basic tools, such as: spanners, sockets, drills and other operational electrical tools
  • Knowledge or crimping / electrical or networking
  • Computer literate and tech savvy
  • Experience in the WISP, networking or telecommunications space is a plus
  • A proven experience in working in the field
  • A proven experience in multi-tasking and prioritizing different tasks
  • Prepared to be on standby / work overtime when needed
