Job Description
Faircom, a division of the Faircape Group, runs and manages a fibre and wireless network throughout the Western Cape. The network is growing with new clients and a fast expanding FTTH growth.
We are looking for an experienced individual to fill the role as our IT Manager.
If you are interested in new technologies, understand the telecommunications market, enjoy working on a variety of network brands and want exposure to a national and international ISP (we peer internationally) and open access fibre provider, then this is the role for you!!
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Running regular checks on network and data security
- Identifying and acting on opportunities to improve and update software and systems
- Developing and implementing IT policy and best practice guides for the organisation
- Designing training programs and workshops for staff
- Overseeing and determining timeframes for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations and outages
- Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of systems and networks to support the group and both commercial and residential clients.
- Core and edge router/switch configuration for both layer 2 open access and layer 3 customers (Juniper, Cisco, Mikrotik, Edge-core, Dell)
- Customer router configuration
- Commercial ISP support
- New fibre rollouts, planning, budgeting, ordering and configuring
- Documenting all configuration, backups of configuration, network diagrams
- Ensuring that network infrastructure is kept up to date and as per standard across the organisation
- Handover documentation
- Change control for new hardware / configuration
- Telephonic and email support
- Monitoring network outages, reacting fast to minimise downtime
- Conducting regular system audits
- Running and sharing regular operation system reports with senior staff
- Managing and reporting on allocation of IT budget
- Providing direction for IT team members
- Identifying opportunities for team training and skills advancement
- Documenting all systems and procedures relative to the above
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in in Information Technology or equivalent
- Additional: Juniper JNCIA and or Juniper JNCIS or Cisco CCNA and or Cisco CCNP
- Advantageous: Mikrotik MTCNA/MTCRE/MTCINE
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years working experience in IT operations
- 1 - 2 Years staff management experience
- Experience leading and managing large IT projects and rolling out IT infrastructures across various technologies
- ISP or telecommunications background
- Layer 2 protocols such as Vlans and including QinQ / Selective QinQ to support an open access fibre network
- IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and subnetting
- Routing protocols, e.g. OSPF and BGP
- Routing filters
- Tunneling, e.g. EOIP / PPTP etc.
- Brands such as Juniper, Mikrotik, Cisco, Dell, HP, Ubiquiti
- Peering relationships
- New technologies and keeping up to date

Benefits
Working hours are Mondays to Fridays, from 08h00 until 17h00.
Would need to be available after hours in the case of emergencies.
With centrally located and modern offices just across from Cavendish in Claremont, we are offering a salary from R 60 000,00 to company per month.
