Job Description
The Valenture Institute’s mission is to evolve education to think outside the classroom and integrate each student’s learning with the causes and challenges they care about. One of these causes is aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, zero hunger, and SDG 3, good health and well-being. In line with these SDGs, we offer a Pre-College Certificate (PCC) in Health, Food and Sustainable Development, and are seeking Graders to join our team, and support our Facilitators with assessing PCC submissions and projects. The Grader is primarily responsible for grading assignments and projects, calculating grades and providing students with meaningful feedback to improve their competencies. The Grader should be extremely detail orientated, passionate about helping students succeed, well organised, and familiar with online learning management systems.
Key areas of responsibility are, but not limited to:
- Grade assignments and projects for a diverse student body; catering for the needs of learners, possible learning barriers, literacy, language, and culture.
- Evaluate students' understanding of the subject matter by comparing their answers to the marking guidelines.
- Provide students with meaningful and constructive feedback, which will deepen their understanding and associated skills in the area of Health, Food and Sustainable Development.
- Calculate marks for assignments and projects, and capture final grades.
- Submit grades within delineated timelines.
- Liaise with Facilitators to ensure assignments and projects are moderated upon completion of grading.
- Report errors and omissions that may be detected in marking guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Sustainable Development, Development Studies or related experience.
- Demonstrable experience assessing similar subject matter.
- Adherence to predetermined assessment-related deadlines.
- Excellent written, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Adept in a technological environment.
- Knowledge of online learning management systems.
- Must be comfortable working remotely and independently.
- Stable internet connection, and your own laptop required.
- Police clearance required.
