Job Description

Channel/strategy owner for:

  • Brand, Media and PR

The primary responsibility of the Head of Content Marketing and PR is to drive performance through our PR and Social Media Channels and take ownership of the full content strategy for Valenture Institute’s partners. At the heart of this role is a focus on performance and return on investment through smart attribution practices and an audience-first mindset.

Key day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Develop a content strategy for each of Valenture Institute’s partners and orchestrate the implementation of digital content strategies across all online platforms.
  • Oversee the generation of content put out by Valenture Institute on behalf of partners via direct mail, email marketing, PR placements, collateral, newsletters and social media.
  • Oversee the strategic direction of all brand collateral (website, information packs, etc) and ensure that these are updated to reflect new insights in collaboration with the General Manager for each partner institution.
  • Maintain and evolve USPs per product line in collaboration with senior leaders at Valenture Institute.
  • Make relevant updates to the website and partner pages, coordinate this process along with the internal tech team or digital agency.
  • Maintain brand integrity and consistency across all platforms for VI and other partners.
  • Work alongside the Paid Media and Creative teams to execute campaigns for organic and paid media.
  • Work with subcontractors to generate content as needed.
  • Determine the PR strategy per partner and manage media relations and develop contacts with media members, influencers, and academic leaders. Prepare and manage all external communications material.
  • Oversee and manage the creation and production of all digital content in collaboration with other stakeholders in the Creative team.
  • Measure the results of all content marketing and PR activities through effective attribution strategies.
  • Use data to make decisions around budget allocation based on the effectiveness of campaigns and tactics.
  • Manage the budget for content marketing, PR and brand activities.
  • Community management, social media insights gathering (Facebook Groups), scheduling (Later.com), reporting (Data Studio amp; Google Analytics), and strategy mapping for all social media platforms for Valenture Institute Partners (e.g. St Stithians Online School) - Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and Youtube.
  • Conduct ongoing research into best practices and competitors to ensure that Valenture Institute partner strategies are effectively differentiated.
  • Support in other marketing activities as needed to advance the business objectives.

Realities of the role:

  • VI is an early-stage startup and wearing multiple hats will be required.
  • Proactive sense-making is needed in the face of ambiguity as many elements of the business’ product-market fit are still being defined.
  • Change will be constant, and you will ideally have an appetite for change and drive towards it in the spirit of improvement.
  • Multi-tasking skills are key as this role requires someone who is able to bounce between various departments and keep track of all needs, insights and recommendations.
  • A customer-focused approach is crucial as you’re required to work across various types of audiences
  • Being organised, proactive and able to work in a high-pressure environment are necessary skills to excel in this role
  • Being curious and creative when it comes to problem-solving are key skills to have as startups play in uncharted territories

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive marketing experience in a B2C (ideally also B2B) environment
  • 3+ years of managing and developing people
  • Proven ability to thrive in the challenges of a startup environment: moving quickly, making smart decisions without perfect information, working cross-functionally and being flexible enough to always take on new challenges
  • A passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, creating great content, compelling brand messaging, and persuasive narratives and stories that resonate with press and our target audiences of aspirational students and supportive parents
