The RoleWe’re looking for an awesome Investment Manager to join our high-growth, venture development company. You’ll have a passion for driving African start-ups to scale through strengthening their invest-ability and supporting with fundraising. You will have experience as an investment professional who can help articulate the commercial potential of portfolio companies by working with them to design and build an investment strategy to reach scale in Africa.This is a fantastic role for a highly capable, experienced individual within a dynamic culture and environment. You will need to hit the ground running and rapidly take full ownership of investment readiness for our portfolio of start-ups. Your focus will be on qualifying amp; closing investment deals and working with selected start-ups across the Venture Scaling and Venture Building arms of FFA, ensuring they receive the appropriate level of fundraising support, as well as growing and maintaining our relationships with the investor communities.Responsibilities - Lead in valuation assessment and deal negotiations with start-ups prior to Investment Committees
- Conduct an assessment of each start-up to establish their readiness status and capacity to raise external capital
- Liaise with start-up founders and other stakeholders within our portfolio to ensure they receive the appropriate level of investment support
- Ensure that each start-up’s investment plan is aligned with the broader FFA Build and Scale programmes and associated timelines
- Track and evaluate the overall performance of the FFA portfolio of companies
- Develop and maintain relationships with investors through meetings, events and updates
- Help prepare for and organise FFA investor events, including our investment showcase days, with support from FFA events team
- Lead and encourage internal engagement to foster a diverse and inclusive culture
Requirements- Deep passion for tech and start-ups and a hunger to learn
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in private equity / venture capital / investment banking / financial advisory or equivalent role in which a thorough understanding of financial modelling and pitch preparation has been developed.
- Experience in deal structuring (legal terms) and execution.
- Proven track record of synthesising insights and developing successful business strategies aligned with market trends.
- Experience and knowledge of the healthcare industry and key trends is highly preferred.
- Experience working with early-stage (pre-seed to Series A) start-ups in Africa
- Relationship with a network of investors, VCs and angel investors in Africa is an advantage
- Highly organised individual, capable of managing parallel work streams while maintaining an effective workflow and communication system
- Outstanding people skills, humility, hustle and resilience
- Ability to work in South Africa and travel from time to time
