Role Summary

The Front-End Developer (eLearning) is responsible for the best practice development of digital and interactive learning to drive student engagement and enhance online learning outcomes.

The role involves close collaboration with Learning Designers and Digital Designers to develop functional, pedagogically sound interactive prototypes. It also involves the development of complex interactive solutions for multiple LMS platforms, as well as the maintenance of existing interactives for relevance and longevity.

In addition to interactive development, the Front-End Developer (eLearning) provides technical guidance to our team of Digital Designers and support to Learning Design teams more broadly. With a deep knowledge of instructional design principles, the Front-End Developer (eLearning) works to co-create interactive solutions, ensuring that all functionality is meaningful and supports intended learning outcomes. From time to time, this role will also be called upon to provide subject-matter expertise in relevant discipline areas, such as IT, Data Science and Engineering - engaging with academics and course designers as necessary.

With significant technical and educational experience their belt, the Senior Front-End Developer (eLearning) contributes to and upholds standards of quality that reflect partner expectations and exceed current industry norms. Key Responsibilities

The key contribution of the Front-End Developer (eLearning) is to lead the development of bespoke interactive learning objects for online learning. Specifically, this role is responsible for:

  • Developing and, where applicable, co-designing student-centred digital learning assets for online study. This includes the development of custom interactive content within Articulate Rise and Articulate Storyline.
  • Extending the use of Articulate Rise and Articulate Storyline beyond typical applications by using JavaScript to create custom functions. These include, but are not limited to, drag and drop, copy to clipboard, export to file type and search functionality, as well as randomised prompt generation, dynamic scenarios and timed quizzes.
  • Supporting Digital Designers and Learning Designers with the use of HTML and CSS in LMS platforms, including Canvas, Moodle, and Blackboard.
  • Supporting Learning Designers with subject-matter knowledge and hands-on expertise, facilitating the accurate, engaging and pedagogically sound development of courses in fields such as IT, Data Science and Engineering. This includes experimenting with the use and integration of learning technologies to enhance the student experience.
  • Providing high-level specialist advice to professional and academic staff on the development of quality interactive learning content, as well as the strategic use of interactive functionality.
  • Working with the Senior Digital Designer and Lead Digital Learning Specialist to ensure consistency in quality and storage of assets for effective management over time. This includes uploading and managing both interactive content and graphics via AWS (S3).
  • Coordinating interactive asset delivery; ensuring high quality, timely delivery while maintaining positive and productive relationships with client-stakeholders.
  • Working with the Senior Digital Designer and Lead Digital Learning Specialist to develop guidelines, processes, and training resources to enable the ongoing development of interactive learning experiences and safeguard our service offering.
  • Working with all internal OES staff and critical partners to develop a genuine enthusiasm for interactive experiences in learning design work.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience in commercial, industry or educational environments, with demonstrable competencies in eLearning products and technologies (including but not limited to Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Canvas and Moodle LMS).
